2nd International Conference on Socioeconomic Diversification in Coastal Communities
At the Museum of the Sea of VIGO, GALICIA - SPAIN
The search for alternatives that guarantee the viability of coastal communities has become a priority policy for private and public agents in the fisheries sector. Since 2005, CETMAR has developed a network project focused on identifying opportunities and strategies for diversification, a project featuring a large contribution by sea workers.
Designed as a Network of Networks, the AQUAREG SEAWO-MEN project allows for multiple lines of research and teamwork, contributing resources for socioeconomic diversification to become a reality.
The 2nd International Conference on Socioeconomic Diversification in Coastal Communities (Vigo, 14th June 2007) has a two-fold goal: firstly, presenting the conclusions of the Seawo-men project: multi-level networks in the sectors of fishing, shellfish gathering and aquaculture; secondly, providing a meeting point for Public Administrations, industrial agents and the society as a whole to evaluate the policies, initiatives and short- and mid-term objectives of socioeconomic diversification.
As a novelty, this second edition features the Sensory Workshop: From Sea to Palate, a gastronomic workshop for product value-adding through a guided seafood tasting. Participants will have the opportunity to savour different cooking methods of classical seafood products while receiving guidance throughout the process, helping them appreciate the products best qualities.
With this 2nd International Conference, CETMAR looks forward to consolidating a forum on diversification strategies on resource sustainable management; the appreciation of sea culture; the diginification of maritime fishing industries as a whole and, finally, the future of coastal communities
