The Aqua By-Products project participants meet in Vilagarcia de Arousa (Galicia) for their second interregional meeting
The Aqua By-Products project, funded by AquaReg, is building a data base of aquaculture enterprises currently dealing with aquaculture and fishery waste, together with the authorized dealers for management, collection, transport and production of the by-products.
The database will also include a compilation of the regional and national legislations and will be available on the Internet. The aim of the project is to bring together the different stake holders of the producing, processing and re-cycling activities.
Present at the meeting were the participants of the three regions (Richie Flynn and Joe Mc Elwee, from the I.F.A., Sigurd Borgo from the Norwegian Seafood Ass. and Salvador Guerrero from C.I.M.A.) and the AquaReg Coordinator for Galicia, Gabriel de Labra.
Salvador Guerrero explained to the attendance that the main by- product in Galician Aquaculture comes from the Mussel farming, both shells and pseudo faeces. Regarding fish by- products, amounts are much lower if compared with the other regions as most of the fish in Galicia are sold whole fresh.
