AQUAREG - REGEX Exchange on MARITIME HERITAGE
 | | Shellfish gathering at Galicia (Illa de Arousa) | Cultural exchange and workshop about a common thematic: the maritime heritage. Rørvik, 28-30 April, 2007
Coasts and seas are those areas where people have cooperated and traded, made wars and re-united objectives and, also, worked, lived and died. Culture and knowledge, society and economics, have been presented and exchanged by means of sea travel.
In spite of this, the sea and coast areas -and so, associated heritage- have not been prioritised as a key resource nor been considered a real culture nowhere in Europe until just some years ago. All the opposite has happened to inland or countryside heritage, which has been recognized as folk" or popular culture.
This is why we consider that Maritime Heritage (MH) must take the initiative and get the general cultural knowledge, the tourism activities-resources, and the socio-economic development in coastal communities, and be seen as part of new coastal businesses" possibilities.
AQUARREG and the Maritime Heritage
As a result of AQUARREG activities and work relationships risen from, partners have appealed and agreed to hold an extra seminar in AQUARREG -Rørvik meeting on April 2007. It will be a round of maritime culture presentations from all the partners, together with a specific workshop to prepare a likely set of cultural projects related to MH in all the countries involved (projects, studies, exhibitions, exchange of experience). It will be based on a common thematic linked to MH and their different manners all along the partners Atlantic coast, the socio-economic revaluing, the future strategies, etc. Projects will contribute to maintain and enhance the AquaReg Cooperation values.
Starting proposals:
- Development of a public and private stakeholders network and products from public and private organizations related to maritime heritage, environment, fisheries, recreation, traditional ships, etc.
- Development of common methodology, tools, products and strategies for the sector
